All Manner of Experiments: Legacies of the Baghdad Modern Art Group

A major exhibition for understanding the development of modern art in Iraq. Founded in Baghdad in 1951 by Jewad Selim and Shakir Hassan Al Said, the Baghdad Modern Art Group sought to create a distinctly Iraqi modernism, combining contemporary artistic experimentation with the country’s visual, cultural and historical heritage. Curated by renowned art historian Nada Shabout, the exhibition brings together painting, sculpture, works on paper and extensive archival material, tracing both the Group’s evolution and its influence on later generations of Iraqi artists, including those working across the diaspora.
