About this Exhibition
Allusive Veil presents a deeply personal body of paintings by Bahraini artist Hisham Sharif, exploring intimacy, memory, relationships and the tensions between private life and social expectations. Influenced by 19th-century French painting, Sharif creates dreamlike scenes through expressive colour, layered brushwork, reflections and partially obscured figures. Interior scenes gradually give way to animals and Persian symbolism, including recurring images of the cheetah and gazelle, used to examine ideas of masculinity, femininity and power.

Allusive Veil is one of the more intimate exhibitions currently on view at Alserkal Avenue. Hisham Sharif builds enigmatic scenes where domestic interiors, fragmented figures and recurring animal symbols create a sense of tension and ambiguity. A strong first UAE solo that rewards a slower, closer look.
