About this Exhibition

The Field of Dreams brings together four series by Palestinian artist Bashar Khalaf: Junk Garden, Protective Shield, Alhisbeh Fire, and WeRamallah. Through painting and mixed media, the artist explores memory, resistance, and everyday life under occupation, transforming familiar objects and urban landscapes into symbols of Palestinian identity and resilience.
EMIRARTS Editorial

In The Field of Dreams, Palestinian artist Bashar Khalaf explores how everyday objects become witnesses to history, conflict, and resistance.

Presented at Zawyeh Gallery in Alserkal Avenue, the exhibition brings together four series: Junk Garden, Protective Shield, Alhisbeh Fire, and WeRamallah. Each offers a different perspective on Palestinian life, from the transformation of ordinary garbage bins into protective barriers during the First Intifada to the destruction of shops and urban spaces in Ramallah.

What makes this exhibition particularly compelling is Khalaf’s ability to turn seemingly mundane objects into powerful political and emotional symbols. Rather than depicting conflict directly, the artist examines the traces it leaves on places, materials, and collective memory.

Together, these works offer a deeply personal reflection on Palestinian identity, resilience, and the relationship between people and their changing environment.
