Denis Matsuev in Concert

Denis Matsuev is known for a powerful, highly physical approach to the piano, but this programme goes beyond the traditional classical recital. Classics & Jazz is built around contrast: symphonic scale and classical virtuosity meet jazz rhythms, improvisation and a much freer ensemble dynamic.

The presence of cello, double bass, domra, drums and saxophone makes this particularly interesting, creating a dialogue between the classical concert tradition and the energy of a jazz set. For audiences who know Matsuev primarily through the Russian classical repertoire, this is a chance to hear a more spontaneous and collaborative side of his musicianship.
