Spices and Wonders: Sailing the Indian Ocean explores the Indian Ocean as one of the world’s great maritime networks, connecting Africa, the Middle East and Europe with South and Southeast Asia from Antiquity to the 17th century. Through spices, textiles, ceramics and other precious cargo, the exhibition reveals how trade routes carried not only goods, but also ideas, technologies and cultural influences between distant societies.
